Flexxxpup Linux the Coolest Puppy Variant Ever
I'm not the biggest Puppy fan out there, but when an old laptop fell into my hands a couple weeks ago, I started looking for a distro that would work on it (more on that in another post).
Flexxxpup didn't end up being the one that worked, but it did catch my eye. For a Puppy variant, it has more "cool" than I've ever seen.
For starters, it has an animated dock at the top, and it's fast - it's Puppy after all. And it doesn't use a noname browser, it uses Firefox, version 3.6. Skype is also in the dock, and Pidgin, Thunar, Transmission, and Abiword. There are certainly the "Puppy" applications, pburn, pmusic, lots of p-apps.
But overall, this is a smoother version of Puppy than I've ever used. The Desktop isn't full to the brim with icons, the background is awesome, the icon set is contemporary and fresh, and the tools you need to succeed are intuitively named and placed.
There's not much worth roasting in this distro. The networking and hardware compatibility are still Puppy-ish. There's no B43xx support, so I had to go with my PCMCIA card, but I'm used to that, and it's not much of a complaint, having to get up and go to the cupboard to make it work. I was able to pick up a beer on the way.
