Size Matters

Tablets and Slates Come in All Shapes and Sizes
A Chinese iPad clone was released last week. It has USB ports. So does the German-made WePad (Now renamed the WeTab) which was demo'd recently. The WeTab has a SD card slot, too, along with a built-in webcam. Hmmmm. Didn't the public vocally wish for similar functionality in the iPad?
Along with these two clones of the iPad, there are several other tablet and slate PC's that are worth a look.
- Archos 7
- Eken Tablets
- Blackberry Tablet
- Nokia
- HP
Size Matters, When It Comes to Screens
The WeTab purportedly boasts an 11.6" unit, meaning it competes admirably with the iPad's tiny 9.7 inches. The Chinese clone beats the iPad, too, measuring 10 inches. Size matters, even in an industry in which smaller is often better.
The Google Tablet, if it's ever released, is supposedly taking a shot at the iPad. It hasn't been released yet, and hasn't released size statistics. Maybe Google's embarrassed. Speculation is rampant.
The Archos 7 and Eken Tablets boast about their speed and responsiveness. That figures, they're only 7-8 inch screens. Small guys always focus on speed and agility. Nokia's latest "tablet" is truly tiny, at just over 4 inches. How embarrassing. What use is a new operating system and new web browser when limited in this way?
A new Blackberry Tablet, rumored to be called “BlackPad” or “Cobalt” supposedly has an 8.9" screen. That will certainly do the job.
I started looking seriously at buying the iPad, but then my wife told me in uncertain terms that we're getting something called a JooJoo Pad, made by some basement company called Fusion Garage. It's a monstrosity, at 12.1 inches. Go Figure.
