Using WordPress for More Than Blogs

WordPress Can Help You Design a Business Site, Too
WordPress has always been known as blogging software, but its functionality has expanded.
Check out the following WordPress-designed websites:
Walk to Washington
Military Sealift Command
Perqworks.com
They don't look or feel like blogs, because they aren't, at least not essentially. They're fully functional CMS websites. And you can make one, too. All you really have to do is start out thinking of your WordPress site as a CMS, not a blog. Go to "Settings" and "Reading," and then check the "Static Page" check-box. Choose "Home" (or whatever you named the page you want) as your homepage.
Also under "Settings" you'll find a "Permalinks" link that will take you to some options. Click "Day and Name" instead of the default. It creates better SEO navigation titles.
Choose a theme that lends itself to static pages, and you're on your way. Unless you're a developer and/or familiar with .php coding, look for themes that have page templates pre-installed, with a full "Functions" menu (fuctions.php) in the theme folder.
The way WordPress is morphing into CMS possibilities makes me wonder if the blog software won't become much more in months and years to come.
